Make sure your photobooth shows your customers the right lights

We recently visited a customer to PAT test some electrical items for their new business. They had purchased an iPad photo booth from eBay and the listing specifically stated the photo booth was 'fully PAT tested'.

When their photo booth arrived however, the customer didn't get a certificate.

Being the diligent business owner they were, they booked us to test their items.

Extension leads passed, power plugs passed, but when it came to that all important photo booth, which had previously been 'fully PAT tested', it FAILED.

It failed a visual inspection because the metal frame wasn't earth and there wasnt a facility to earth it. The lighting unit had no earth, nor was it identified as a Class 2 item.

The customer was ghosted by the supplier and there were no manufacturers instructions, so it was tested as a Class 1 item and had no connection to earth.

Despite the lighting element being LED, and therefore requiring very little power, it had a 13 amp plug.

We were devestated for the customer, but they realised safety came first. Even if they did pay a pretty penny for the pod.
